THE COOLEST PARTY OF THE YEAR!

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - JANUARY 13, 2007

 

DESCRIPTION:

CURVE, the nation's best-selling lesbian magazine, rings in the new year with a whole new role: the magazine and its staff make a guest appearance on the January 14, 2007 episode of Showtime's popular lesbian drama, The L Word. CURVE celebrated their contribution to queer pop culture history with a HUGE L Word gala party on January 13 at San Francisco's swank W Hotel. VIP's in attendance were L Word cast members: Pam Grier (Kit), Leisha Hailey (Alice), Kate Moenning (Shane) and producer/creator, Ilene Chaiken. Plus, celebrity emcee, Suzanne Westenhoefer, DJ Saratonin and Honey Labrador.

CURVE, spotlights the latest entertainment, travel and politics from a lesbian perspective. Their lesbian related celebrity interviews, news, style, travel, social issues and review have helped CURVE achieve a level of prominence that has kept them in the spotlight for 17 YEARS. Read by more women than any other national gay and lesbian publication, CURVE has been named "Best Gay and Lesbian Publication by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation(GLAAD).

Doors opened at 8:00 PM where two lines wrapped around the third floor, flooding the area with loyal Showtime and CURVE subscribers. The event opened up with the talented DJ Saratonin spinning for the first hour.

Shortly after Suzanne Westenhoefer greeted the crowd of cheering women and gave a special thanks to DJ Saratonin for the music. She performed a hilarious comedy routine that poked fun of Shane's hair and hinted at a guest appearance by a local funny girl named Suzanne.

Suzanne introduced Curve publisher Francis Stevens and Executive Editor Diane Anderson-Minshall.

Frances Stevens: 17 years ago owner, Publisher and Editor in Chief Frances Stevens started CURVE, the nations best selling lesbian magazine.

Diane Anderson-Minshall: Executive Editor of CURVE Magazine is also the author of upcoming mystery novel series "Blind Curve's". Diane was recently named one of PowerUp's 2006 Top Ten Amazing Women in Showbiz.

San Francisco Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi & Bob Twomey from Assembly member Fiona Ma's office present official documents to CURVE honoring their accomplishments.

Also in attendance was the Human Rights Campaign, which is the largest civil rights organization working to achieve gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against GLBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

STILETTO's & STRAP ON'S, Burlesque Troupe from Vancouver, Canada perform

Stiletto's and Strap On's BIO: Stilettos and Strap-on's Burlesque has been inspiring naughtiness since 2005. Traveling from Vancouver, Canada, these saucy exhibitionists like long walks on the beach, sequined strap-on's and bad ass femme debauchery.

DIAMOND Daggers Perform

Diamond Dagger Gaiety Girls, a queer carnival ride of 20th century foxes who have gayly broken all molds! These vigilante vaudevillian teasers Diamond Daggers, are notorious for their high-end appearances on the San Francisco Pride Main stage and the closing night gala of Frameline Film festival two years in a running. THey are featured in the January issue of CURVE magazine and are thrilled to return to the CURVE Annual Sex Party.

HONEY LABRADOR

Honey Labrador promotes the new L Word clothing and jewelry line.

Honey Labrador Bio: Queer Eye for the Straight Girl Gal Pal Lesbian, former model has graced the pages of Elle, Mademoiselle, Marie Claire, Harper's Bazaar and both British and Italian Vogue. After modeling Labrador became and actress (Red Shoe Diaries) and movie producer (Little Black Boot). After starting her own production company, Labrador also produced and starred in the lesbian feature film "April's Shower".

Suzanne Westenhoefer introduces Ilene Chaiken

Ilene Chaiken has accomplished extraordinary range and versatility throughout her career as a write and producer working in film and television and continues to defy all boundaries. Chaiken created the groundbreaking hit series, "The L Word" which is about lesbian life in Los Angeles. The show follows a group of friends, both gay and straight, through stories of career, family, inner struggle, friendship and romantic relationships and stars an impressive cast, including Jennifer Beals and Pam Grier. Chaiken made her directorial debut in Season 2 of the "The L Word" with the season finale episode, "Lacuna,". This spring, "The L Word: Welcome to Our Planet" booked published by Simon and Schuster will make it's debut March 8, with experts through out the book by Chaiken.
